Woman Arrested For DUI Crash in Carmichael

Four teens, one from Carmichael, injured on St. Patrick's weekend.

A Sacramento woman was arrested in Carmichael this past St. Patrick's Day weekend for driving while intoxicated and causing a vehicle collision that injured three teenagers, the California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday.

At about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Kaitlin Bennett, 26, was driving a white 1996 GMC Jimmy on westbound Madison Avenue just east of Hackberry Lane approaching a red traffic signal, the CHP said. Corey Dick, an 18 year old female from Sacramento was driving a white 1991 Ford Probe on eastbound Madison and making a left turn onto northbound Hackberry on a green arrow. Bennett failed to stop for the red traffic signal and her vehicle broadsided the right side of the Ford Probe, the CHP said.

The right front, middle rear and left rear passengers in the Ford were not wearing their seatbelts. A 16-year old-female from Pollock Pines was sitting in the middle rear seat. She was ejected and transported to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries, the CHP said.

An 18-year-old male from Citrus Heights was sitting in the left rear seat. He was ejected and transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and sustained moderate injuries, the CHP said. The right front passenger, a 17-year-old male from Carmichael, was transported to with moderate injuries. The right rear passenger, a 15-year-old male from Sacramento, was transported to Mercy San Juan and listed in critical condition.

Bennett and her 26 year old passenger, Cortney Kavanas of Sacramento were not injured in the collision. Bennett was arrested for a felony DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 percent, the CHP said.
