Arraignment Set for Accused Hit-and-Run Killer
Adam Garrett is accused of hitting and killing a cyclist before calling 911 and lying to police about the incident.

A 19-year-old Huntington Beach man was scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges stemming from the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist.
Adam Carl Garrett was charged Aug. 3 with a felony count of hit-and-run causing death and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter, according to Deputy District Attorney Nancy Hayashida.
Garrett was driving his Toyota Camry north on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Fountain Valley about 3 a.m. May 15, and as he exited at Warner Avenue and headed west toward Huntington Beach, he struck a bicycle, Hayashida said. The rider, 25-year-old Hung Khac Do, was thrown from the bike, she said.

Garrett kept driving to his home about four miles away, Hayashida said. The bike rider was found a short time later by a limousine driver and another motorist who tried to revive him, according to the prosecutor. Do was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, but died about 40 minutes later, Hayashida said.
Garrett called 911 about 3:20 a.m., but he lied to authorities about what had happened, Hayashida said, declining to provide specifics. If convicted, Garrett faces up to four years in prison, Hayashida said.
