CHP Chase Ends in Fountain Valley

A man suspected of driving under the influence led CHP officers on a chase Wednesday from the 261 Tollway in Irvine before finally being stopped on Interstate 405 near Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley.

The driver was stopped by a CHP officer around 4:30 p.m., but fled the scene, proceding on Jamboree Road, where he then got onto the 405, officer Gabe Montoya said.

The driver was finally surrounded by CHP patrol cars on the 405 near Brookhurst around 5 p.m., Montoya said.

"He did not want to stop until he was physically prevented from moving
the vehicle further by five patrol cars,'' Montoya said, adding that the man
slammed into all of the cars, backing up and trying to turn around in a scene
that resembled a demolition derby.

The officers had to close the Brookhurst onramp as they took the man into custody about 5 p.m., Montoya said.
