Concerts in the Park Set to Begin

The annual concert series begins Thursday night with a tribute to the Beach Boys.

With hot days giving way to cool, pleasant nights, the setting's perfect for the start of the City of Fountain Valley's Concerts in the park, the annual music event that starts at Thursday night at the rec center with the first of four weekly concerts.

This year's series will feature tributes to four legendary musical acts. Thursday night, Beach Boys tribute band Surfin' Safari takes the stage, followed next week by Journey tribute band Don't Stop Believin'. Raymond Michael will bring his Elvis Presley tribute to the stage on July 21, and the series will wrap up July 28 with Jimmy Buffet tribute act Mark Wood and the Parrot Head Band.

The shows will all start at 6 p.m., but Concerts in the Park also features a different pre-concert event each week starting at 5 p.m. This week, residents can attend a meet-and-greet with the Recreation and Community Services department's instructors. The Go Green Extravaganza wil be held before next week's concert, followed by Nonprofit Night on July 21 and the Business Expo on July 28. The Business Expo will also feature a performance by local music act The Originalites, who won the Battle of the Bands event at this year's Summerfest.
