Fountain Valley Council Seeks to Adopt Unified Redistricting Proposal

The city will consider 3 proposals already on the table as well as 1 more of its own design.

The Fountain Valley City Council will consider two resolutions at its meeting Tuesday night in an attempt to send a unified message to the county's Redistricting Board about the city's position.

The Board has three proposals on the table already. Under all scenarios, Fountain Valley would remain entirely within the 2nd Supervisorial District with the same composition as it has today. The total population of the District would be 593,479, and include the Cities of Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Rossmoor, Seal Beach, Stanton, Sunset Beach, and a small unincorporated area.

In addtion to those three plans, the council will consider a resolution that would still keep the entirety of Fountain Valley within one supervisory district, but which would not designate a particular district.

The council will also consider two rebate agreements with the Municipal Water District of Orange County. The first would provide residential customers with a $75 rebate for installing "smart" weather-based timers for their sprinkler systems, which can save an estimated average of 15,000 gallons of water a year per family.

The second rebate agreement would provide a rebate of $1 per square foot to customers who replace their natural grass with a more water-efficient surface. The program requires that a minimum of 150 square feet of turf be removed, with a maximum of 10,000 square feet.
