Fountain Valley High API Up 6 Points

The school's 885 score is more than 100 points above the state average.

Fountain Valley High School's Academic Performance Index score for the 2010-2011 school year rose by six points from last year's score, according to figures released by the state this week.

The school's six-point increase is slightly below the statewide average increase of 11 points, but its overall score of 885 is more than 100 points higher than the statewide average, and eight points higher than the average score of similar schools.

API reflects growth in student achievement from one year to the next. It is determined by results on the California Standards Tests in English, math, history/social science and science, and the California High School Exit Exam. The scores range from 200 to 1,000, with a performance target of 800. According to the state, 49 percent of California schools met or exceeded the 800-point bar in 2010-11, compared to 46 percent in 2009-10.

As for the exit exams, 95 percent of Fountain Valley High students passed the English portion of the test, with 97 percent passing the math portion.
