Are You Feet Ready for Their Close-Up? Get a Free Exam at F.V. Hospital
The hospital is celebrating Foot Awareness Month with the free diabetes-related exams.
There are two main things that separate human beings from most of the rest of the animal world: our feet. They might not be the first thing most people think to take proper care of, but, especially for those battling diabetes, feet are an important component of overall health.
On that note, as part of Feet Awareness Month, l is offering free diabetic foot exams tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon.
“Diabetic patients should have a comprehensive foot exam yearly,” said Dr. Ben Ching, podiatry residency program director at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. “A comprehensive foot exam can provide valuable information such as circulation issues, as the doctor will check the dorsalis pedis pulse and posterior tibial pulses. If the pulses are weak or absent, he or she may refer you to a vascular specialist for further testing.”

Diabetes can cause both nerve damage and hardening of the blood vessels in the feet. Lack of feeling in the feet makes it difficult for diabetics to tell if they have a sore or blister. If left untreated, small sores may turn into serious infections that can spread to the entire leg or even the whole body.
Those interested can call (714) 979-1408 for more information on the free foot screenings and to make an appointment. Space is limited.
