Hometown Discount for CJ Wilson?

The coveted free-agent pitcher has reportedly asked the Angels for $100 million deal.

Believe it or not, $100 million is a bargain in the modern free-agent baseball market, especially for a left-hander starter in his prime.

Fountain Valley product C.J. Wilson may be willing to offer his services to the hometown Angels for just that sort of bargain. He has reportedly met with the Marlins, but the Yankees, always any team's main competition because of their deep pockets, declined to meet with him.

If the Yankees really aren't interested, and Wilson doesn't want to go clear across the country (not to mention to a rebuilding National League franchise), the Angels could end up in the driver's seat by default. They're looking for one more front-line starter to bolster their rotation, and it could end up becoming a choice betwen Wilson (should his interest continue to be serious) and an offensive upgrade, which could come in the form of free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who could easily be this year's Adrian Beltre.
