Lady Barons Falter in Hoops Challenge Semis
A strong second half wasn't enough as Fountain Valley fell to Sunset League rival Huntington Beach, 53-35.
The Fountain Valley girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night to Huntington Beach, 53-35, in the semifinal round of the Lady Baron Hoops Challenge.
Sophomore Lora Bender led the Lady Barons with eight points in the loss as Fountain Valley never recovered from a turnover-plagued first half in which the Lady Barons were outscored 32-8.
Fountain Valley put together a solid second half, outscoring the Oilers 27-21. The two teams will face off again Jan. 5 in the first Sunset League game of the season for both teams.

Fountain Valley will face Esperanza in the tournament's third-place game Saturday. Game time is scheduled for noon.
