Los Amigos Student Wins $10,000 Art Scholarship

Marlene Quiroz of Los Amigos High School captured first prize in the high school art competition for the 46^th Congressional District sponsored by U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.).

Quiroz, 18, of Santa Ana, earned the top award for her self-portrait, “Bolexican Me.”

Quiroz, a student of art teacher Kevin Ferguson, received a $10,000 scholarship to the Art Institute of California, as well as a trip Washington, D.C., for herself and a family member, where she will be honored along with other winning students from across the nation in a ceremony on June 22. Their art will hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the Capitol for one year.
