More than Half of Fountain Valley Elementary School Students Qualify as Advanced in 2010 STAR Tests for science, algebra and English
The area's high school students tested well in biology, chemistry and world history.

As the Fountain Valley School District's Boundaries and Closure Committee prepares to decide which school to recommend for closure Tuesday night, more than half of the district's students have qualified as "advanced" in the latest STAR tests for science, algebra and English.
Fountain Valley students scored especially high in algebra, with 70 percent testing at the advanced level. The highest percentage of students scoring at the far below basic level were in the history and life science categories with 4 percent. At least 24 percent of the district's students tested at the proficient level in every category.
At the high school level, ninth graders had the highest percentage of advanced students, with 87 percent in the biology category. Fountain Valley High's 10th graders were second, with 55 percent testing at the advanced level for chemistry.

In the integrated/coordinated science testing, Fountain Valley 10th graders didn't fare as well, with 26 percent testing at far below basic levels.
At , freshmen led the way with 76 percent testing at the advanced level for world history. Other numbers were less encouraging, with 45 percent of ninth graders testing at far below basic levels for general mathematics, 31 percent of juniors testing at far below basic for geometry, and 29 percent of both 10th and 11th graders testing far below basic for algebra I.
