Officer Injured While Arresting Burglary Suspect in Fountain Valley

The officer sustained two broken right fingers and some cuts in an ensuing struggle with Raul Serna.

A Fountain Valley police officer sustained broken fingers while arresting a burglary suspect today.

Raul Serna, 30, of Santa Ana, was booked on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer, according to Fountain Valley police Sgt. Mike Parsons.

Serna allegedly stole some items at a Starbucks store about 8:30 a.m. at 17850 Newhope St., and when police confronted him about it minutes later he kept walking away, Parsons said.

Serna also is accused of swinging a backpack at and attempting to tackle an officer, according to Parsons.
