School Closure Committee Could Vote Tonight
The 19-member committee will review additional information and decide if it is ready to make a recommendation to the school board.

The Fountain Valley School District's School Boundaries and Closure Committee could decide whether to close one of the district's elementary schools when it meets Tuesday night at the district offices.
"The group has reviewed quite a bit of information and I have asked them to give some thought as to what information they still need to be able to make a decision," said Steve McMahon, the district's assistant superintendent for business. "Assuming most of the questions have been answered or will be answered during tomorrow’s meeting, we would be ready for a vote by the end of this meeting or beginning of the following meeting."
The 19-member advisory committee was formed to assess the potential need for school closures in the district and present recommendations to the school board by September.

At the end of the April 26 meeting, committee members were broken into groups and asked to list the potential pros and cons of closing a school. One representative from each group will be asked to report his or or group's findings at Tuesday night's meeting. The committee will also review additional history on enrollments and student transfers and discuss any unanswered questions members might have, McMahon said.
Should the committee decide to close a school, its next step would be to establish a set of criteria that would ultimately help them determine which school it would recommend closing.
