School Closure Committee to Begin Ranking Schools
Members have established loss of students to other districts as their primary concern as they work to determine which campus should be recommended for closure.

After voting to recommend closing one of the district's schools and establishing criteria by which to evaluate each school, the Fountain Valley School District's School Boundaries and Closure Committee will discuss how each school will be rated on those criteria at its meeting Tuesday night.
At its last meeting on June 7, the committee established a pool of potential factors that could be used to evaluate each school and then narrowed the pool down to 10:
- Potential to lose students to neighboring districts if school is closed
- Projected declining enrollment
- Current enrollment
- Intra-district transfer percentage
- Unused classrooms
- Proximity to closest school
- Travel distance
- Size of campus
- Students/neighborhoods impacted by previous school closures
- Proximity to major intersection/freeway
Once the 19-member committee has decided which school to recommend for closure, it will report its recommendation to the Board or Trustees, which will then make the ultimate decision on whether a school should be closed and, if so, which campus would be eliminated.
