Violent Crime Down in Fountain Valley During 2010

Property crime, however, increased slightly.

Violent crime decreased slightly in Fountain Valley during 2010, according to universal crime reports released Monday by the FBI.

2010 saw a total of 103 violent crimes reported, down from 116 in 2009. Reports were up, however, in many of the most serious individual violent crime categories. 2010 saw three murders and five rapes investigated in Fountain Valley, up from zero and four respectively in 2009.

Aggravated assaults and robberies were down, with 67 and 28 reported respectively, down from 79 and 33 in 2009.

Property crimes increased slightly overall from 2009 to 2010 in Fountain Valley. A total of 1,292 property crimes were investigated in 2010, up from 1,170 in 2009. Additionally, property crime was up in every individual category. Burglaries were up by 29 for a total of 266; larcenies increased by 78 to 951; vehicle thefts went up by 15 to 75; and arsons went up by three to nine.
