What Could Fountain Valley Schools Do with 100 Grand?

If you haven't entered Patch's Deck the House contest yet, here's a little extra motivation.

By now, you know that Patch is giving $100,000 to one lucky school district as the grand prize in our Deck the House holiday lights contest. But what could that kind of money really do? For starters, it could help bring the world to local students.

When wins the hundred grand (and with your help, it will win!), the district will be able to install smart boards that will allow teachers to integrate their lessons with the internet.

Assistant Superintendent Steve McMahon recently attended a demonstration of the technology in which a teacher, while discussing a book, was able to use the smart board to show students photos of the geographic settings in the story and explore the towns described. Students were also able to answer questions about the lesson and prepare PowerPoint presentations about the characters afterward.

The system would cost about $130,000, but $100,000 would certainly be a welcome head start. McMahon said the system would likely be installed at Talbert Middle School, where students tend to have less access to technology at home.

So what are you waiting for? Visit the contest site today, log in with your Facebook account, submit photos or videos, and let's win that cash!
