Annual CROP Hunger Walk This Sunday

Walkers raising money to help stop hunger and poverty in the community and the world are taking to the streets this weekend.

The 2103 East San Gabriel Valley Crop Hunger Walk will be Sunday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. The starting line will be at Glendora United Methodist, 201 E. Bennett Ave.  The 5K easy course will end at First Christian Church, 300 N Glendora Ave.

This year’s goal is to attract 200 walkers in hopes of raising $15,000 for self-help initiatives in the community and the world.

A portion of the funds will go to the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless, St. Vincent de Paul, Shepherd’s Pantry and ACTION Food Pantry in West Covina.

Last year, 170 walkers raised more than $14,000.

Participants of all ages are invited to walk or run through the course. Participants are asked to raise money before the walk or donate money to the cause.

The CROP Hunger Walk is part of a national campaign that involves 2,000 cities and towns nationwide in an interfaith effort to “end hunger one step at a time.”

Internationally, CROP Hunger Walks have assisted Haitians still suffering from impacts of a devastating earthquake with rebuilding homes, and offering food supplies.

Across the U.S., funds have played a role in helping communities ravaged by floods and tornadoes.
