Council Member Karen Davis Named One of Judy Chu’s Women of Distinction

The Glendora city council member was one of 16 women from the 27th Congressional District to be recognized for service.

Glendora Council Member Karen Davis was named one of Rep. Judy Chu’s Women of Distinction of the 27th Congressional District during an awards ceremony Saturday at the Huntington Library in San Marino.

The awards honored women from various backgrounds, including women entrepreneurs, volunteers, civil servants and a female Olympian from 16 cities.

Davis, who has served on the Glendora city council since 2005 and as mayor in 2008 and 2009, has taken part on numerous community organizations, including

Youth to Youth program, Glendorans for Drug Free Youth Committee and Glendora Mayor’s Task Force on Youth.

Davis has won several awards, including the Woman of the Year Award of the 59th Assembly District in 2009, one of “The Magazine’s” 50 Fabulous Women Award in 2010, and Attorney General’s Crime Prevention/Community Service Certificate of Appreciation in 2005.

Davis is currently a pastor at First Christian Church in Glendora.

Winners of Chu’s Women of Distinction Awards also included Altadena business owner Inger Miller, also an Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1996 400 meter relay and Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz.

“No words can describe the contributions that all sixteen of these amazing women have made to our community in the San Gabriel Valley and to the world at large,” said Chu. “From competing for our nation on the global stage, to advocating for those with developmental disabilities, to representing the cutting edge of entrepreneurial achievement, each one has had a profound impact on the world around them. Most importantly, all overcame tremendous obstacles in their careers, proving themselves to be wonderful role models for others who aspire to their success.”
