Countywide Sheriffs Relay to Honor Fallen Deputies, Officers

Sheriffs deputies, including those from the San Dimas Sheriffs station, will take part in the 339-mile relay May 17 to 19.

Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputies, including those from the San Dimas Sheriff station, will take part in the countywide three-day annual Memorial Torch Relay Run.

This year’s run will take place May 17, 18 and 19. The run will honor Deputy Constable Charles De Moranville, Deputy Harry S. Guard and Deputy Emma Benson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and Chief Henry P. Tracy of the Pomona Police Department, who were all killed between 1909 and 1919.

The run was first organized in 1976, honoring the memory of the peace officers in Los Angeles County who died in the line of duty, according to a Sheriff’s statement.

The relay consists 56 legs about 5 to 10 miles each, starting from the Sherman Block Sheriff’s Headquarters building and will travel 339 miles.

The run will conclude Sunday, May 19 at the Altadena Sheriff’s Station. Nearly 2,000 runners will participate in the relay.
