Glendora Police to Crack Down on Unbuckled Motorists

Glendora officers are joining the nationwide campaign to boost seat belt use.

As the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign goes into effect this month, the Glendora Police Department is reminding motorists that officers will be cracking down on drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled.

“As we kick-off the busy summer driving season it’s important that everyone buckles up every time they go out, both day and night – no excuses,” said Glendora Police Chief Rob Castro in a statement. “Our officers are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing their seat belt – Click It or Ticket.”

The campaign will run May 20 through June 2. According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 52 percent of the 21,253 people killed in vehicle accidents in 2011 were not wearing their seatbelts. The NHTSA reports that in 2011, seatbelts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide.
