Inmate Who Escaped from Work Camp Near Asuza Is Apprehended

Kevin Shann, 40, was taken into custody by Santa Monica police at 9:25 p.m. Saturday.

A 40-year-old inmate who was missing from the minimum-security Julius Klein Conservation camp in Azusa has been taken back into custody, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation today.

Kevin Shann, 40, was taken into custody by Santa Monica police at 9:25 p.m. Saturday. He was discovered missing from the facility in Azusa during a routine security check at 11:25 p.m. May 25, according to a CDCR news release.

Shann was originally committed to CDCR from San Diego County for a four-year sentence for first degree burglary. He was scheduled to be released in August of 2016. Now the Los Angeles County District Attorney will handle prosecution for his escape.

Shann is being returned to the authority of CDCR.

Since 1977, 98.5 percent of all offenders who escaped from an adult institution or a community based program have been apprehended.
