Photos: Community Pride on Display on Glendora Day

With marching bands, community floats and high school pageantry, Glendora residents showcased their community pride during Glendora Day at the Los Angeles County Fair Wednesday.

Along with Glendora residents who received discounted admission to the fair, nearly 3,000 Glendora students attended as part of the , a record number for the program.

Three Glendora residents were also honored as this year’s Community Heroes. Keith and Dottie Hilliard, longtime Glendora residents and active participants in numerous community organizations, and Glendora High School graduate Chandni Israni were recognized during a ceremony after the Glendora parade.

The Hilliards are active in local organizations, including the Rotary Club, Glendora Corral 35, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital Foundation and the .  The couple was honored for dedicating their efforts to local seniors, youth and animals, especially their work with horses of the community.

Israni, 18, is Glendora High School graduate who, along with juggling academic achievements, has divided her time among numerous community organizations and service groups.

Israni has participated in Kiwanis Clubs, Girl Scouts, volunteer work for East Valley Hospital, among many other organizations.

“It’s wonderful to be recognized for the work I have done and to be picked out of all the people in this community,” said Israni, who is attending Cal Poly Pomona as a business administration major.
