Soroptimist Intl. Azusa Glendora: Investing in Dreams, Changing Lives
Local Soroptimist club celebrates it's successful Live Your Dream Award program by inviting past award recipients to reunion event

Glendora, CA – On a cool evening in late fall, Soroptimist International (SI) of Azusa Glendora (SIAG) met at the home of one of their members. They were there to induct new members, network with supporters and friends and celebrate the success of their past Live Your Dream (LYD) Award recipients.
“It was a great evening, and I think those in attendance would agree that the reunion of our club’s past LYD recipients was the highlight,” said Rhonda Beltran, SI of Azusa Glendora president. “We asked each of these young women to provide an update on what they are doing now, and it was inspiring to learn of their accomplishments and future goals," she said.
Many of the award recipients have earned degrees and certificates and have full time jobs; others are still attending classes at local colleges and universities while working and tending to family responsibilities.

Founded in the 1950s, SI of Azusa Glendora is just one of hundreds of Soroptimist clubs across the country and around the world that support women and girls and invest in their dreams. Each year, SI of Azusa Glendora participates in the Live Your Dream Award Program, which is also a SI signature program involving clubs nationwide.
In a competitive process that focuses on both determination and financial need, LYD applicants must demonstrate their commitment to achieving their goals. Other criteria include being head-of-household and enrolled in an academic or vocational program that leads to employment. The process begins in August with an online application.

SI Azusa of Glendora also hosts several other events for women and girls at various pivotal life stages. These events feature education, encouragement, support and fun. In the fall, the club hosts a Self-Confidence Workshop for fifth grade girls. In the spring they host Dream It, Be It, a college and career workshop for high school juniors and seniors. Also in spring the club hosts a Personal Growth luncheon for middle school girls who are honored for overcoming significant life challenges.
“Being a part of the lives of local women and girls means our SI club has played a role in changing the future in a very positive way,” Beltran said. “The ripple effects go far and include their family members, the local community, and ultimately the world in which we live. Feedback from them indicates these women are ‘paying it forward,’ and we are further motivated by their accomplishments.”
