While many Bay Area shopping centers anchored by big box retailers will be open on Thanksgiving Day to offer shoppers so-called Grey Thursday discounts, such as Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo, don't count Westgate or Stanford shopping centers among them.
The shopping centers are not among Simon Property Group entities in eight states that will be open on Turkey Day for the first time ever. (However, Macy's, located at the Stanford mall, will open on the holiday at 8 p.m.)
Local Simon workers are likely thankful for that, as more than 16,000 Simon employees nationally have signed a petition protesting the company's decision.
ValleyFair in Santa Clara, a Westfield property, will open at midnight on Black Friday, though its website said select retailers may open earlier.
Select stores at Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo will be open on Thanksgiving. They include: Ann Taylor, Macy's, Old Navy, Sears, and, handy if you're going to pull an all-nighter, Starbucks.
The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, opening on Friday at 12 a.m.
