Suspects Arrested In 2023 Coastside Shootings: Sheriff

Investigators allege two young men were responsible for two gang-related shootings in Half Moon Bay in October.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — Two men face attempted homicide and gang-related charges after police allege they were involved in a pair of shootings last year in Half Moon Bay, according to the sheriff's office.

In a news release Thursday, officials said the Coastside Patrol Bureau began investigating after two separate shootings in October. The first incident happened Oct. 21 on Cypress Avenue, followed by an Oct. 23 shooting at the intersection of Willow Avenue and Pilarcitos Avenue. Investigators said no one was injured in the shootings.

Detectives followed up on both cases over the following months and determined two men were linked to both shootings, which authorities believe were gang-related. The sheriff's office identified the suspects Thursday as Orlando MontelongoShavarin, 18, and John Neves, 19, both of unincorporated San Mateo County.

Deputies arrested Neves on April 9 in Half Moon Bay, where he was booked with a no-bail warrant on suspicion of attempted homicide, discharging a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime and participating in a criminal street gang.

Officials said MontelongoChavarin was already in custody related to a January shooting, and he was arraigned April 9 for his alleged involvement in the October shootings.
