U.S. Coast Guard Recognizes Pillar Point Harbor's Valiant Efforts for Rescue Operations

The Operations Department U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco recognized the San Mateo County Harbor District and its rescue operations Wednesday after a morning of joint training activities in preparation for the 2013-2014 Mavericks Invitational Surf Contest.

U.S. Coast Guard, San Mateo County Harbor District, Pillar Point Harbor Patrol, and the Big Wave World Tour water rescue team conducted the annual training activity, which includes staff from both Pillar Point Harbor and Oyster Point Marina in South San Francisco.

The training entails discussion of the logistics and accommodations for on-the-water assets, becoming familiar with the operational zone for the contest and training evolutions with Air Station SF and their Rescue Swimmers.

"The main goal is to have all waterside assets familiar with the area and get a chance to meet face to face before the day of the contest," said Cary Smith, Deputy Harbor Master, Pillar Point Harbor Patrol.
