7-Day Countdown to Sale Of Liquor Store & Carniceria On Ave. 50

A 3,880-square-foot retail liquor store and carniceria on the corner of Avenue 50 and El Paso Drive is for sale, along with the 10,934-square-foot lot, but the store owner says that if he's unable to sell his business by the end of May he'll "keep on going."

It's been about two months since William Leng decided to sell Star Liquor Market, located on 807 Ave. 50, at the foot of El Paso and on the edge of Highland Park and Mount Washington. Leng, who does not own the building, bought the store from a previous owner six years ago, who ran it for about two decades. But Leng and his wife have no family members to help run the store, which is why, says his wife, they're eager to sell it.

"I'm fed up," says Leng, adding, however, without giving a reason why, that if there are no buyers by May 31 he'll continue with the business.

An article Friday in the Eastsider L.A. reported that the building on 807 Ave. 50 is for sale—without the store. According to the Lengs, however, both the store and the building are for sale. The listed price of the 10,834-sq.ft. lot on LoopNet,  to which the Eastsider article links, is $253.87 per square foot—just south of a million.

The only problem is there aren't any buyers--and that probably explains Leng's frustration. And his seven-day deadline may well be aimed at generating interest in the listing.
