Back House Fire Threatens Highland Park Apartment Building
Firefighters mounted an aggressive fight to protect an apartment building on South Avenue 57 from the flames.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Firefighters doused a fire in a Highland Park back house and protected a nearby apartment building from the flames Monday morning.
The blaze broke out just after 5 a.m. and briefly threatened a nearby apartment building in the 200 block of South Avenue 57, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"The fire was in the front portion of the home and extended to a well involved attic fire,"Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. "Crews defended the exposed apartment building from any damage. All occupants safely evacuated prior to LAFD arrival."

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the back house, and an additional task force was called to aid in the fight, said Stewart.
With 32 firefighters on the scene, crews were able to knockdown the fire in under a half hour.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
