Celebrate Memorial Day at Veterans Square Today

Today's Memorial Day Celebration will begin at 10 a.m.

, Council District 1, the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council and local volunteers have planned a Memorial Day service to honor the nation's veterans that will be held today (Monday, May 28) at 10 a.m. at Veterans Square Memorial at the corner of York Boulevard and North Figueroa Street.

In recent months, volunteers have been readying the square for the celebration. Among the improvements made by the volunteers were the placement of new plants around the freshly power-washed memorial, and the erection of a fence around the perimeter of the square. Glass vases that will be filled with flowers have been placed in the side the memorial's fountain, and community members are invited to bring photographs to be arranged around the memorial.

Council District 1 has also around the square to allow more light to shine into the area.
