Fiery Furnaces' Eleanor Friedberger to Play Free Show at Wombleton Tonight

The singer/songwriter will play material from her new album at Wombleton during a free show that begins at 8 p.m.

Indie Rocker Eleanor Friedberger will take her electric guitar and a batch of new songs to Highland Park tonight for a free show at .

"The party starts at 8 p.m. and Eleanor will probably go on at about 8:30," said Ian Marshall, co-owner of Wombleton Records. "She's calling the shots."

Marshall said he and Friedberger, who is commonly known to rock fans as a singer and songwriter for the indie rock duo the Fiery Furnaces, developed a close friendship through mutual acquaintances in New York City.

Marshall was on hand during Friedberger's recording of her album, Last Summer, which took place in February in Jamaica.

"We're even name-checked on the second track of the album," Marshall said. "She mentions Wombleton, so it was sort of destined."

According to Marshall, Friedberger is planning a nationwide tour in the fall with her full band.

Tonight, though, Friedberger will be playing tracks from Last Summer in their rawest form.

"It's just going to be her and her electric guitar," Marshall said. "And a lot of reverb."

Wombleton Records is located at 5123 York Blvd. in Highland Park. The shop is open from 12:00 p.m. until midnight, and tonight's party kicks off at 8 p.m.
