Figueroa Bike Lanes Presentation at Thursday ASNC Meeting

A representative of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation will give a presentation Thursday before the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council about plans to install bike lanes on North Figueroa Street.

LADOT Bikeways Engineer Tim Fremaux will give a talk about the planned project's background, its conceptual building blocks as well as benefits and potential impacts on the community.

The ASNC will be conducting a joint meeting of its board of representatives with the so-called Local Issues Committees of Mount Washington, Montecito Heights and Monterey Hills.

The presentation, which will be followed by a Q&A session about bike lanes, will be part of the ASNC's monthly board meeting held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Montecito Heights Senior Center, located at 4545 Homer St.

LADOT Bicycle Coordinator Nate Baird told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch this past week that Fremaux's presentation at the ASNC meeting will be part of the city's outreach efforts and that similar presentations have been made before various neighborhood councils whose jurisdictions encompass the 2010 Los Angeles Bicycle Master Plan.

The ASNC board is also scheduled to discuss and take possible action on the North Figueroa Street bike lanes plan. On May 8, the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council voted for an alternate bike lanes route that would run roughly parallel to North Figueroa. In doing so, the HHPNC stopped short of opposing the bike lanes plan outright, as the Greater Cypress Park Neighborhood Council did on April 25.
