Firesign Theatre Company Leader Peter Bergman Made Commercials in Highland Park

Peter Bergman--leader of the Firesign Theater Company, a subversive comedy troupe that entertained students on college campuses across the country in the 1960s--died Friday in a hospital in Santa Monica, the Washington Post reports. 

While the Firesign Theatre Company made their name through their absurdist records and live shows, the troupe also has a history in Highland Park. 

In 1969, Bergman and company made a series of frantic, pun-loaded commercials for Jack Poet Volkswagen in Highland Park, located at the current location of the on North Figueroa Street.
