Floral Gifts Mark Teacher Appreciation Week at Mt. Washington Elementary

The school kicks off a week-long celebration in honor of teachers and staff.

Mt. Washington Elementary School kicked off Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week on Monday, continuing a long-observed tradition of encouraging students to bring a flower each to the morning for their teachers. The result: A colorful feast for the eyes that leaves many teachers emotionally overwhelmed.

This will be the last Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week at Mt. Washington Elementary for Principal Elizabeth Valentino, who officially ushered in the festivities with a short speech in the school's multipurpose auditorium. (See video). Ms. Valentino will be moving with her husband to Northern California in the next school year and is already being sorely missed, according to some parents.
