Gang Members Allegedly Threaten Pedestrian with Shotgun on Figueroa

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's gang unit are investigating an incident that occurred early Friday morning during which members of a local gang allegedly pointed a shotgun at a pedestrian.

According to Gang Unit Captain Richard Ortiz, a 42-year-old man was walking near Avenue 54 and Figueroa Street on Friday at around 1:30 a.m. when we has approached by two men in a vehicle.

"The victim heard the brakes of a car screech, so he turned around. He was confronted by a couple of guys who were in the car, who pointed the shotgun at him and asked 'where are you from,'" Ortiz said. "The man responded by saying 'nowhere,' and the guys in the car drove off."

According to Ortiz, no shots were fired, but the the victim reported hearing the suspects cock the shotgun.

The victim-who police said is not a gang member--was unable to provide description of the suspects' that contained any distinguishing details of their appearance.

Police are currently investigating the incident, and believe it be gang related due to the nature of suspects' question.

Ortiz said that gang members will confront unfamiliar individuals and ask where they are from to determine if they are affiliated with a rival gang.
