Highland Park Police Chase Ends In Crash

A passenger in a suspected stolen vehicle fled into a Highland Park neighborhood while the driver continued on to crash.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A suspected stolen vehicle being chased by Los Angeles Police Department officers crashed into a retaining wall near Union Station Wednesday evening and a pedestrian was injured.

Officers began their chase of a white Nissan Maxima on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway near Sixth Street in downtown Los Angeles about 9:45 p.m., according to Officer Tony Im with the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

The suspect exited the freeway and while going southbound on Griffith Avenue in Highland Park, a passenger got out of the car and the driver fled again, Im said. KCAL9 reported that man was arrested.

The pursuit continued until the driver crashed near Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, sending debris flying that struck a woman nearby, Im said. The extent of her injuries was not known. The driver stayed in the car and was handcuffed by police and Los Angles firefighters were called to the scene to free the driver, according to KCAL9.

No officers were reported injured.
