Bystander Hurt in Friday Night Shootout

The injured man is in stable condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital.

An innocent bystander was struck by bullet at 11:30 p.m. on Friday evening during a shoot-out between gang members and security guards on Avenue 55 and North Figueroa Street, according Northeast LAPD Sergeant Edward Perez. 

"There was an exchange of gunfire on between security guards and gang members around Avenue 55 and Figueroa Street," Sgt. Perez said. "One of the bullets penetrated a building and struck a man who was sitting inside." 

According to Sgt. Perez, the man was taken to Glendale Memorial hospital, where he is being held in stable condition.

No arrests were made, Perez said, and he was unable to provide a specific description of the suspects. 

Northeast LAPD Detectives are still trying to determine what sparked the shootout.

Sgt. Perez said that Detectives have spoken to the security guards, who alleged that the gang members fired on them first. 

"Detectives talked to them and it appears that the security guards were acting in self defense," Sgt. Perez said. "We will likely bring them in for another interview."
