Man Found Shot to Death in Highland Park

Despite treatment in a local hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries Tuesday evening.

A man was found shot to death Tuesday afternoon in Highland Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD officers responded to an "ambulance shooting" on S. Avenune 57 and Benner Street at 4:55 p.m., Sgt. David Armas, a watch commander at the Northeast Community Station, told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch.

The officers found a man with a gunshot, Armas said, adding that the victim was transported to a local hospital, where his wounds were treated. But despite the doctors' best efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at 6:48 p.m., Armas said.

No further details, including where the man was shot and by what kind of weapon, were immediately available. An investigation is ongoing. Armas said Northeast detectives will probably release more information Wednesday afternoon.

It's not known whether the incident is gang-related, Armas said.
