Readers Poll: Where Do You Stand on the Autry's Proposed Griffith Park Expansion?

As previously reported on Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch, the Los Angeles City Council's art, parks, health and aging committee met last Friday to hear public committee regarding the Autry National Center's of their Griffith Park location.
The Los Angeles City Council over the issue last week after receiving numerous e-mails and phone calls from community members who complained that they were of a May 20 Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission board meeting during which the Autry expansion plan was approved.

Supporters of the Autry expansion proposal have argued that the project will allow the Autry to further their mission of educating Los Angeles residents about the area's anthropological and natural history and would offered a proper display space for the Southwest Museum's massive collection.
Those who oppose the plan, though, have stated that the Autry has at reopening the , which they argue is the most historically appropriate place to display the collection.

According to the proposal submitted by the Autry to recreation and parks, the Autry’s plan calls for “the renovation and reconstruction of two exhibit galleries, the installation of long-term exhibits, the conversion of an existing outdoor area into an outdoor teaching garden, and associated improvements including the renovation of existing restrooms.”
The project will be paid for through $6.9 million that the Autry received from California’s Prop. 84 Nature Education Facilities (NEF) Program, which was established to support projects geared toward providing environmental and natural history education.
Councilman José Huizar told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch that the city council's jurisdiction over this issue allows them either uphold the recreation and parks commission vote, or refer it back to recreation and parks with recommendations to either rescind or modify their approval.
