Upcoming Donut Shop on York Boulevard Promises Exotic Fare

Donut Friend is scheduled to open next to Scoops, the gelato shop, within two months.

A new donut shop is set to open on one of York Boulevard’s most business-intensive sections—and it’s said to be a far cry from anything that your average donut store serves.

Called Donut Friend, the shop will be located at 5107 York Blvd., right next door to Scoops, the roughly year-old gelato shop east of Avenue 51, according to Alex Shabani, a real estate agent with Centers Business Management, an L.A.-based property company.

The store, which still has a “For Lease” sign on it, has been leased to Mark Trombino, a drummer and music producer for bands such as Blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World, according to the Eater L.A. website.

Trombino has “paused the music and is now out to serve micro brew coffee and a selection of unconventional donuts,” the food-centric website says, adding: “They’re an exotic bunch stuffed and glazed with locally sourced ingredients and bear names like GG Almond (Gruyère and honey inside a bismark donut, topped with a sugar glaze and toasted almonds) and Jets to Basil (goat cheese, strawberry jam, basil, arugula inside a bismark donut, topped with a sugar glaze and balsamic reduction).”

Donut Friend, which already has a Facebook page, is expected to open within the next two months, Shabani said. Construction is furiously underway inside the shuttered store, according to Donut Friend on Facebook.
