Workers, Organizers to Protest Proposed Chinatown Walmart

The proposed location would be only five miles away from Highland Park.

Labor organizers and workers will this afternoon protest a proposed 33,000 square-foot Walmart grocery store proposed to be built in Chinatown at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Grand Avenues, according to the Los Angeles Times.

From the Times:

The group, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, accuses the store of denying workers adequate wages and benefits. Organizers also say Walmart is circumventing a city ordinance prohibiting the expansion of its big-box stores by opening smaller grocery stores.
