HOLLYWOOD, CA — Several Hollywood building projects were among the winners at the recent Los Angeles Business Council Architectural Awards. Among them were the Egyptian Theatre, which took home the Grand Prize for its recent $70 million renovation.

The awards, now in their 54th year, celebrate design that preserve and advance the region's legacy as a creative capital and foster "vibrant, inclusive community life," according to organizers.

“This year the LABC is honoring projects whose inspired designs build on LA’s heritage and move the city toward a dynamic future," said Mary Leslie, president of the Los Angeles Business Council. “From renewing entertainment venues and creative workspaces to reimagining parks, schools and housing, our honorees exemplify the power of architecture to serve the public good, foster progress, and build community.”

Netflix Egyptian Theatre
Award: Grand Prize

"Beginning in late 2021, EverGreene was contracted to perform two tasks. The first was to conduct a finishes investigation and microscopic analysis of the existing interior finishes in the Egyptian Theatre. The purpose of this investigation was to support renovation efforts by documenting the interior and exterior historic color palettes and decorative motifs. The second task was the actual conservation and restoration efforts of certain historic features. Treatments included conserving, repairing, and/or recreating flat and decorative plaster elements; prepping surfaces for refinishing; painting flat surfaces and reinstating decorative stencils and patterns; restoration and/or refinishing of some doors and windows; restoring and/or replacing some exterior tiles; and restoring and/or replicating certain metal elements."

Echelon Studios
Award: Community Impact Award

"The vision for Echelon Studios is to bring Hollywood back to Hollywood. The design reinvents the traditional movie studio lot through a dense urban campus that integrates the best of technology and creative resources with the legacy of Hollywood. The 466,000 sq. ft. campus, featuring two six-story office towers and bungalow village of executive and creative suites, fuses soundstage facilities and studios with ample production and creative offices to meet the demands of creators. Echelon Studios inverts the typical Hollywood production lot by allowing the studios to stack vertically and the offices to open to the outdoors, maximizing creative space across a dense city block and providing a destination with the amenities of a studio lot but with a thoughtful, modern workflow."
