Director Scott Speer Pleads No Contest In Domestic Violence Case
Speer hit his then-wife and lit a broom on fire in an attempt to burn down the house, according to prosecutors.
HOLLYWOOD HILLS, CA — Film director Scott Speer pleaded no contest to injuring his spouse and resisting an executive officer after a domestic violence incident with his ex-wife. Speer was sentenced to 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, 45 days of community labor and five years of probation.
The charges date back to an April 18, 2019 confrontation between Speer and his then-wife at their Hollywood Hills home. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Speer hit his wife and set a broom on fire in an attempt to burn down the house. The couple's 7-month-old daughter was in the house at the time, according to prosecutors.
Speer was initially charged with five felony counts, including child abuse, arson, criminal threats, domestic violence and resisting arrest. The first three charges were dismissed and the latter two were reduced to misdemeanors due to his no contest plea, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
