HOLLYWOOD, CA — From Melrose Avenue and the Sunset Strip, to Echo Park and Silver Lake, many neighborhoods across Los Angeles have seen their "cool" status wax and wane throughout the decades. Now, another LA community has been named one of the world's coolest.

TimeOut recently named East Hollywood among the 38 coolest neighborhoods in the world, a list that also includes Miami's Little River, Brooklyn's Flatbush and Kowloon City in Hong Kong.

The list was compiled by TimeOut's staff around the world and ranked based on its food, drink, arts, culture and street life, with an eye toward celebrating "the most unique and exciting pockets of our cities — and all their quirks."

"Free of Tinseltown’s tourist traps, neighbor East Hollywood has begun to stake its claim as LA’s buzziest culinary destination," the publication wrote.

TimeOut called out three of the district's smaller neighborhoods, Melrose Hills, Virgil Village and Thai Town — and their restaurant scenes — as a major reason to get excited about the area. It also mentioned the recent overhaul of Hollywood Boulevard, with its slimmed down roadway and dedicated bike lanes through Thai Town.
