Girl, 17, Fatally Shot After Hollywood Street Race

A 17-year-old girl was shot to death following a street race in Hollywood Sunday, police said.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police said Sunday that a suspect was in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl following a street race in Hollywood.

The girl was struck by gunfire just after midnight at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, in an incident related to a street race along surface roads, according to Officer Kevin Snare of the Los Angeles Police Department's Operations Center.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Her name will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Details about the street race remained unclear, and police did not immediately say when or where the suspect was arrested.
