Hollywood Food Coalition Starts Program To Fight Food Insecurity

Community Exchange will donate to smaller organizations with specific food and supply needs.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Hollywood Food Coalition announced a new program to continue fighting food insecurity. The group launched Community Exchange, which works to aid smaller organizations with specific food and supply needs.

In the first four months of the program, the Hollywood Food Coalition recovered 279,000 pounds of food and distributed 172,000 pounds across 40 agencies. Community Exchange welcomes one-time or recurring donations from both private and business donors.

“Establishing a Community Exchange allows the Hollywood Food Coalition to extend our mission and our work to even more people during these unprecedented times, in a way that meets the particular needs of the people and organizations we serve” said executive director Sherry Bonanno. “COVID-19 has upended the lives of so many, and we are grateful to our partner Cedars-Sinai for providing the resources to help us ensure that we give as many community members as possible the hope and security that comes from a warm, nourishing meal.”

The Community Exchange was made possible by a grant from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a partnership with the Hollywood United Methodist Church and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Canned goods, vegetables, fruit, prepared food, eggs, face masks and cleaning supplies are currently needed. You can call or text 323-347-7907 to donate, or visit the Hollywood Food Coalition website.
