Hollywood Hills Landslide Damages 3 Homes; Power Briefly Out for 422 Customers

Breaking: Los Angeles Fire Department says debris flow threatens at least three homes.

HOLLYWOOD HILLS, CA — Firefighters responded to a landslide in Hollywood on Monday evening that they said was threatening multiple homes.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said that debris flow was affecting about three homes in a brief statement on Monday evening. The department said the damage was located in the 8100 block of West Laurel Drive and that no injuries had been reported yet.

"A large backyard of one home on Hillside Avenue slid downhill and across the (8100 block) of Laurel View Drive into the front yard of two homes," said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. "A total of five homes were evacuated as a precaution.".

About 50 firefighters, including an air unit, responded to the scene, he said.

"Residents of one home called 911 and stated they were unable to get out," added Scott.

Firefighters were able to quickly evacuate them to safety.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power initially told Patch that 422 customers were without power after the landslide, but said the majority of the customers had their power restored with an hour. She said the debris flow had impacted at least three power poles.
