HOLLYWOOD, CA — A Los Angeles City College building was evacuated Thursday morning after an odor inside a science lab prompted an emergency response, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The LAFD responded to the Science Tech Lab just before 9 a.m. to investigate the odor, which began after water was flushed into a drain. There was no visible smoke or vapor when firefighters arrived, the LAFD said.

The involved classroom was isolated and the building's 15 occupants were evacuated.

One college staffer who was in the area was evaluated by paramedics for "non-specific symptoms," but declined further treatment.

Hazardous materials specialists concluded their investigation and found no hazard within an hour and the occupants were allowed to reenter the building, firefighters said.
