Man Charged In Murder of Hollywood Counselor

Freddy Leyva will face up to life in prison if convicted, according to the District Attorney's Office.

A 22-year-old man was charged with murder Friday in the fatal stabbing of a Hollywood-based Job Corps counselor.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba ordered Freddy Leyva to remain jailed on $1 million bail pending arraignment March 26.

The murder count includes the allegation that Leyva used a knife to kill 48-year-old Dwayne Alexander.

Leyva before other residents subdued and disarmed him at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday at the facility in the 1200 block of North Lodi Place,

Levya was arrested soon afterward by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division.
