'Roseanne' Spinoff 'The Conners' Will Air Without Roseanne Barr

BURBANK, CA — ABC announced Thursday it has ordered a spinoff of "Roseanne" with all of the major cast members except series star Roseanne Barr.

ABC has given a 10-episode order for the series, which has the working title of "The Conners," which will premiere in the fall, airing in the Tuesday 8-8:30 p.m. time slot, the same as "Roseanne" during the 2017-18 season.

The series will star John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. Additional cast members and a premiere date will be announced later.

Gilbert will continue her role from the reboot as an executive producer, as will Tom Werner, an executive producer throughout the run of "Roseanne," which originally began in 1988.

The nine-episode reboot of "Roseanne" was television's most-watched series during the 2017-18 season but canceled on May 29, hours after Barr posted a racist tweet.

Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series, according to ABC. She was a creator and executive producer of the initial series.

In the spinoff "after a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before," according to ABC.

"`The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” ABC said in a statement.

Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson and Fishman said in a joint statement: "We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts and homes of our audience.

"We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter."
