Saban Community Clinic To Host Back To School Vaccination Drive

Vaccines are free for all children, and will be available via drive-thru to minimize contact.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Saban Community Clinic will host their annual back-to-school vaccination drive Wednesday. Vaccines will be distributed via drive-thru to minimize contact, and there is no cost for uninsured or underinsured children up to 19 years old.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature music, guest appearances and giveaways. Patients who schedule a vaccination appointment online will also have the chance to win a new Chromebook laptop to aid in distance learning.

Saban Community Clinic's free drive comes in the midst of National Immunization Month, which began as a way to highlight the importance of vaccination for all ages.

Although the school year in Los Angeles will begin with distance learning, parents are urged to keep up with vaccines to be ready when in-person learning resumes. As the pandemic spread, vaccinations in April decreased by over 40% from their usual numbers according to the California Department of Public Health.

"This pandemic has disrupted so much, including how we’re seeking preventive health care services,” Dr. Sonia Angell, Director of CDPH and State Health Officer, said in a press release at the time. “During and after the pandemic, unvaccinated infants and children will be more vulnerable to dangerous diseases like measles and whooping cough. It’s so important that parents make sure their children are up-to-date on their immunizations.”
